摘要：Political uncertainty can lead to sub-optimal financial decisions and outcomes (Pastor & Veronesi, 2012). In this project, we investigate whether political uncertainty also affects the quality of firms' information environment. This is an important question because market participants rely on information to make optimal financial decisions. In a Chinese setting where politics and political leaders are expected to exert significant influence on economic activities, we find evidence that uncertainty caused by turnovers of local government leaders has an adverse effect on firms' information environment. The adverse effect is manifest in firms that are more politically dependent (state owned firms, firms receiving government subsidies, and domestically listed firms). Further, we find evidence suggesting that firms react to political uncertainty by reducing the amount and the quality of information provided to investors.

讲座人简介：王卫民（Weimin Wang）副教授现任职于美国圣路易斯大学（Saint Louis University）John Cook商学院会计系终身副教授。王教授于清华大学取得本科学位，并于2000年取得Washington University in Saint Louis会计学博士，曾任教于Tulane University。他的研究兴趣包括会计与资本市场、公司治理等领域。他的论文发表在Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis (JFQA)、Abacus、Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting(JBFA)、Journal of Accounting, Auditing, and Finance(JAAF) 、Journal of Business and Economic Studies (JBES)等国际期刊。
