夏志宏（Zhihong Jeff Xia），数学博士。著名数学家、天文学家，研究方向：哈密尔顿动力系统，天体力学。1976－1982年在南京大学天文系学习，1988年毕业于美国西北大学数学系。他26岁的博士论文解决了早在1897年提出悬而未决的Paul Painleve猜想。他是1993年美国总统奖（青年研究者奖）、1993年布拉门塞尔纯数学奖、1995年马里兰州大学应用数学Monroe Martin奖得主。曾任教于哈佛大学、佐治亚理工学院，1994年成为美国西北大学终身教授。

五、讲座摘要：Voting theory, or more generally, the mathematics of social choices is a fascinating research area. As we all aware, different voting procedure can produce different election outcome. If different (and better) voting methods were used, George W. Bush (US) and Chen Shui-Bian (Taiwan) would not have been elected. I will describe some of the surprising phenomena in voting, Arrow's Theorem (partly responsible for his 1972 Nobel Prize in Economics) and recent work of Saari.
